Hi All
I visited my mom recently. While there, I brought back many pictures from her collection. I have scanned them in and now posted them

Lawrence and Christopher
Here are some pictures of the gravesites at Opdahl where Dad (Lawrence) and Grandma and Grandpa Hagen are buried. We did something a bit different and put all of the family handprints in concrete blocks and placed them on top of Dad's grave. Marilyn came up with the idea, Gayle and John got the blocks started and Lanette did most of the finishing work and placing them. She worked pretty hard in typical North Dakota conditions. The first picture is looking towards the south and the farm. The 2nd is looking towards the west where 1/2 mile NW the Holgerson farm was destroyed by a tornado.
I don't remember running into any old pictures of Opdahl Church before the storm. I was just looking at Arnold's book where he tells about the storm. It happened in 1919 and the church disintegrated with debris blowing to the east. Then they dug a basement and covered that for use hoping to build later. That never happened. The Haugen boys are doing their part now keeping the place up. The church really looks nice (on the outside).

Snowden Bridge
Before they built the new road between Trenton and Fairview, the short cut from Williston to Sidney was to take a gravel road that crossed the one lane/railroad Snowden (sp?) bridge. Both it and the Fairview bridge were constructed such that the middle section could be raised to allow steamboats to journey on up the Yellowstone. I really like that old bridge and used to go there every once in awhile for no other reason than just to see it. Oddly - I didn't learn about the other one until many years later even though they are only a few miles apart. I think they are virtually identical - but the Snowden bridge doesn't have the added attraction of a tunnel. But if you ever have the opportunity, they are worth seeing.
July 2006: Ft Buford, ND and Yellowstone River Fairview MT
All five of our grandkids are included in these pictures. Three live in Michigan and two live in South Carolina.
It was 101 degrees F. the day we visited Fort Buford with the kids. Later in the day we walked across the old Fairview Bridge that had been used by cars and trains. We are standing at the end of the tunnel. I remember as a little girl being so worried that a train would be crossing at the same time we were in the tunnel approaching the bridge. There was a little crank phone and one hoped that the guy giving the "all clear" sign knew what he was doing. I recommend that you all take a walk across the Yellowstone River on the bridge and through the tunnel. It is beautiful in the evening when the sun is going down and the shadows are long. They also have great pizza at the Powder Keg in Fairview, Mt. Gayle Hagen Axness
Opdahl Church & Cemetary
We can thank the Haugen family for maintaining the church and cemetery at Opdahl. They have made many improvements and in many ways the outside of the church looks better than it did before it was closed. The inside is pretty spooky and I would not want to go past peeking in the door. The raccoons have made themselves at home and they aren’t much for keeping house! It was interesting that while in Norway, John and I visited an area above the tundra line called Opdahl. After seeing the area I can see the similarities since the topography looks like the plains of ND.

We are posting pictures of our “mini” cousin’s reunion July 16, 2006. It was great getting together and we hope that more are able to attend our next gathering.
The second picture is of mom with our son Aric and daughter Dana.
The sunset picture was taken on our way home from Crosby. The sunsets and sunrises are so beautiful in North Dakota.

I have been having trouble posting!
Yes I know it is sideways....I couldn't figure out how to make straight! This is a picture of Kirk from 1983. Shows a little of his silly side.
I really enjoy the website. Even though I have had trouble posting, I visit the site everyday. I have learned a lot about the family that I didn't know. Great pictures too!
Weather here in Austin has been gloomy most days but at least we aren't freezing! With tax season hitting I have been really busy. Probably won't come up for air until April.

Homestead with Addition?
Here is another picture I had scanned from Mom's collection. Arnold and Norris talked about, in their writings, the addition of another homestead shack to the original house. I believe you may be able to see that same door in the peak of the main house. I'm not sure who is all in the picture.
I do appreciate this site. I take a peek at it about every time I sit at the computer. So I will continue to contribute when I can. I hope everyone is staying warm. At least this winter (in ND) is a little closer to a winter we were used to growing up, just not much snow. It is supposed to be back up to the 30's late next week. Take care!
Divide County Courthouse
Hi there! Dave, here are a few pictures of the DC Courthouse that you were talking about. Lea had her driver's license test the other day at the courthouse so I brought my camera with. It was about 5 below that day so I didn't spend much time getting good pictures. The clock is a working clock and they have the building lit up at night which looks very nice at the end of main street. It looks like I can only get 3 pictures on one post. I have one more I'll attach with the next post.

Exciting times at grandma's
Gloria with daughter's Mari and Kim having what appears to be a pretty exciting time at Grandma's place. Ah, the good old days.
Speaking of the good old days, we need to see more pictures of you and your families. How are you? Where are you? In fact, who are you? All these things we need to know. And what better place to introduce yourself to your relatives, both near and far, than by posting some pictures. And if you're having trouble posting them, send them to me and I'll post them for you. Here's hoping to be "... looking at you, kid"!
